Dr. Curtis Boyd has been providing pregnancy termination services in New Mexico since June 1972, shortly after abortion services were legalized in the state. Dr. Boyd worked closely with Clergy Consultation for Problem Pregnancies, a national organization dedicated to providing safe abortions. He was among the first physicians to provide high-quality, low-cost outpatient procedures in the southwest.
Southwestern Women’s Options was founded in 1985 after our Santa Fe location closed. We have a long history of providing care to the people of New Mexico and beyond. Our current location, opened in 2008, is a pillar of the abortion community in Albuquerque and plans to remain as such for years to come.
Southwestern Women’s Options had been providing abortions in all trimesters since 2010 when Dr. Susan Robinson (retired) and Dr. Shelley Sella (retired), both Board Certified Ob/Gyns and former colleagues of Dr. George Tiller joined our practice. Following the Dobbs decision in 2022, New Mexico faced a surge in abortion provision. While doing our best to meet the response safely, it was realized that we needed to rethink a more sustainable model of care for our beloved staff and patients. We have paused the induction program as we thoughtfully reimagine how to uphold our high standards of care while facing an increased demand for abortion access. It is deeply understood that induction patients encounter many barriers to access and it is our intention to bring back these services with long-term sustainability and consideration.
