Our Name

Although our name is Southwestern Women’s Options, we recognize and believe that not all people who are capable of pregnancy identify as women. We acknowledge that much of the language around pregnancy and abortion care is targeted toward cisgender women; however, that focus can be alienating for many people. Furthermore, we understand through the reproductive justice framework that not everyone truly has a choice in their reproductive autonomy due to factors such as poverty, systemic racism, and the many systems of oppression. Therefore, we acknowledge that “Options” is also not representative of our patients’ lived experiences.

We are a progressive organization that aims to be representative of our patients and the larger communities that we serve. We strive for inclusivity in our patient care that isn’t represented by our name.
