Dr. Curtis Boyd Gives In-Depth Interview
Dr. Curtis Boyd sat down for an in-depth interview with Joey Peters of the NM Political Review to speak about his life’s work: providing abortion care for over 50 years. Dr. Boyd talks about his moral reasoning for providing the service which he says is rooted in his Christianity. He explains that as a clinic,“Our role is to help her make a decision in the grace of God that she can live with”.

As one of the few doctors to perform abortion later in pregnancy, Dr. Boyd is outspoken about his trust in women. In the interview, Dr. Boyd explained,“women don’t have late-term abortions for frivolous reasons,” he says. “They don’t just get up one morning and say, ‘I’m tired of this pregnancy. I’ll call Dr. Boyd and get an abortion.’ They go through an ethical decision-making process. They’re trying to figure out, ‘What is best for me, for my family, the children I have, the children I hope to have, for society?”

This is a theme that runs though Dr. Boyd’s work. He fights to give his patients bodily autonomy so that they are able to make the decision for themselves. He maintains that it is not about “really advocat[ing] for anyone to have an abortion,” he says. “I advocate for the right for the woman to decide for herself whether she will continue that pregnancy or not.”

Most importantly, Dr. Boyd treats his patients with care and respect. He explains that as an abortion provider,“ you can value pregnancy and you can value the women simultaneously, and you can respectfully bring that pregnancy to an end, still valuing the fetus and respecting the fetus,” Boyd says. “And we do that every day.”
