WHAT TO EXPECT

At Southwestern Women’s, your care involves a dedicated team of medical professionals who follow a refined process to ensure every patient is treated with warmth and respect in a safe and welcoming space. Let’s review what you can expect when you schedule an appointment at our clinic.

Step 1: Request an Appointment

It all starts when you request an appointment through our website or when you call our office. Together, we will find a date and time that best fits your schedule for an appointment. Patients may opt to complete the required paperwork electronically for their visit in advance to reduce the amount of time spent in the office. If you know you are interested in this option, please be sure to mention this when requesting your appointment.

Step 2: Plan Your Visit

Whether you are a New Mexico resident or will be traveling to us from out of state, we stand ready to help you make arrangements for your care. In most cases, you can expect to complete all the steps of your appointment within 4 to 5 hours based on how far along you are in your pregnancy. Step 3: Confirm Your Appointment

You will receive a courtesy text message in the days before your scheduled appointment to confirm. We understand that plans change, which is why we take this opportunity to ensure everything is still on schedule for your appointment. If not, feel free to reschedule for a better time.

Step 4: Arrive for Your Appointment

Upon entering Southwestern Women’s, you will be greeted by our dedicated staff who will check you in and help you get started with your appointment. If you have not had a chance to complete the paperwork online ahead of your appointment, you will have time to complete it in the clinic.

Step 5: Ultrasound and Lab

You will consult with a registered nurse who specializes in abortion care and pregnancy options services. They will review your medical history with you, perform an ultrasound and do your lab work.

Step 6: Counseling

One of our skilled counselors will meet with you to review your paperwork, explain the procedure and aftercare instructions, answer all of your questions and hold compassionate space for you ahead of your abortion.

Step 7: Meet Your Provider

Prior to the abortion, you will meet privately with your provider to ensure that all your questions have been answered and concerns discussed. The provider will consent you for the services requested and review your medical history with you one last time.

Step 8: Your Abortion and Afterwards

Abortion is one of the safest medical procedures available. Recovery from an abortion varies from person to person but most people are able to resume their daily schedules and activities within a few days. We recommend listening to your body while slowly and mindfully reintroducing your regular activities. Click here to read more about what to expect after your abortion
